Reflections...

Mummy was shocked when Daddy told her the latest news that happened in Wall Street yesterday. The collapse of Leh*** Bro*** Bank, the bought over of Mer*** Lyn** by Bank of Amer*** and the financial crisis in AI*. Then over here in China, there is the recent issue on banned melamine found in infants' milk powder of San** brand, causing the death of at least two babies and rising numbers of those affected (from the 400 at first to 1253 based on the latest news). All these bad news send financial markets around the world crashing...

Sometimes Mummy just thinks it's all a rat race. City dwellers get caught up in this rat race about the famous 5 Cs they always talk about in Singapore (Cash, car, condo etc) and perhaps in a lot of developed countries too. But it seems when suddenly such events happen, even cash you keep in the bank is unsafe. Seems to be such a joke. Do we now have to move to a cash basis, and keep all the cash under our pillows at home?

Mummy's been to Yunnan recently. The people in the mountains really led very simple and carefree lives. They do not worry about owning the latest design of BMW, the nicest apartment etc. But then again, they are probably worrying about whether they will enough for the next meal anot.

Such is the world we live in now... It's sad but it's very real... Maslow's hierachy of needs (once survival needs have been satisfied, you move on to satisfy self-actualization needs)... Daddy's been doing a lot of bible study lately and kept telling Mummy, maybe it's time we rethink about the priorities in our lives. After all, all the wealth that we work so hard towards accumulating cannot be brought away with us when the Lord calls for us to join Him in heaven.

For all those who are worried for Matt...
Matt has been on total breastfeeding since birth. We have also brought in milk powder from Singapore, for emergency needs. We have given him rice cereal (from trusted international brands) bought locally from trusted supermarkets since he was 6 months. However, to be on the safe side, we have decided to stock up all of his food from Singapore when we return to Singapore during the Oct holidays.
