Feeding problems: Refusing to eat

Mummy's been very bothered at the fact that I seem less interested in drinking milk nowadays, although I am still ok taking solids. I used to be able to finish 7 ounces of milk at one shot. Now, even when Mummy has reduced the feed to only 5 ounces, I can't finish and not only that, it takes Mummy 2-3 times to make me finish the milk. In between, I will just be playing and playing non stop. This article below gave Mummy some comfort...

  • The problem
It's no coincidence that right around the time your child learns to walk — usually between 9 and 16 months — she becomes much less interested in food. When there's so much to discover, who has time to eat? (Keep in mind, though, that her growth has slowed and, in spite of how active she may be, her energy needs are less.)
  • What you can do

While your child needs some encouragement and structure when it comes to mealtimes (such as regular meals and healthy choices), William Sears, noted pediatrician and author of 23 books on childcare, says whether, when, and how much your child eats should ultimately be up to her. "Your child may eat well one day and eat practically nothing the next," says Dr. Sears, who recently co-authored The Family Nutrition Book (Little Brown, August 1999) with his wife, Martha.

Rather than get hung up on the fact that your child has refused everything you put in front of her today, consider her food intake over the course of one week. Parents are often surprised to find that their child's food intake balances out. Something must be fueling all that energy!

Don't forget to consider fluids in the food equation, too. Milk and juice can offer vital nutrients (though too much juice means too much sugar). But since too much fluid can also dampen an appetite, you may want to serve drinks after and between meals. And try to make sure she's not filling up on junk food. A daily multivitamin also provides added insurance that your child is getting the vitamins and minerals she needs but is not a substitute for good food. And if your toddler refuses to eat or drink anything for an entire day, call your pediatrician.

Mr Handsome At Bath...

Mummy was taking a bath for me last weekend and realise that she could style my hair with water or shampoo. After styling, she found it pretty hilarious, so she yelled at Daddy to take some photos for me. Check this out...

Little Genius At Work

Here's the little Genis at work. That's ME!!! I simply love Mummy's laptop. Each time, she brings it out, I never fail to "pounce" onto it... I love to slam my hands on Mummy's laptop and also rip out some of her keys... Mummy can't seem to stop me no matter what...

Mr Shredder...

Mummy is disappointed that recently I have developed some bad habits recently. This is one of them. My latest nickname, Mr Shredder. I managed to grab hold of some tissue paper and this is what I did to them. Shred them into tiny, tiny pieces and throw them all over Mummy's bed...

Matthias' Recent Development Milestones...

Mummy is so amazed that I am growing at the speed of light these days... Hahaha... I am reaching so many milestones, that she wished she can spend more time with me. Just the other day, Mummy was complaining I still cannot crawl. I proved her wrong. Check out my video where Daddy tried to tempt me to crawl by giving me his cellphone and then when I am reaching it, he moved it further away again...

Remember, Mummy also said that I am now grabbing onto anything I can find, and pulling myself up? Last night, I just learnt to grab onto my cot and pulled myself up. Now I am starting to cruise whilst holding onto the edge of the cot or the sofa. Oh yah, and the waving of bye bye and Hi-Five...

And guess what??? Today, Mummy was trying to teach me how to pronouce "Daddy", "Mummy", "婆婆", "Nai Nai" (aka milk milk), "Bom Bom" (aka Bath) and "Mum Mum" (aka food). She heard me say Da Da... Di... She was so excited and kept repeating "Daddy" to me to prompt me to say this again. So funny. I purposely pretended and refuse to repeat... Hahaha...

Matt's Tooth Growth Chart

As a remembrance for my tooth grow, Mummy has decided to do a tooth grow chart for me. Mummy is wondering why I have so little teeth as to date, I only have the two lower central incisor teeth halfway out... as compared to Ethan (ie Mummy's colleague, Uncle Andy's baby) who is 6 weeks older and already have seven teeth.

My New Toilet Trainer...

My "poo poo" has taken a different shape since now I am taking much more solids. 婆婆 says she can now see a funny expression on my face, everytime I try to "poo poo". So she asked Mummy to get me a toilet trainer to train me. Check this out, other than being a toilet trainer, this doubles up as a "riding" toy for me... Hahaha...

Standing But Not Crawling???

Mummy's amazed that I appear to have skipped the crawling stage. Mummy's been trying to train me to crawl for a while now, by trying to stir my interest by putting stuff in front of me. I just try to reach out as far as I can, or flip from side to side until I reach it, yet still not crawling. Sigh... Mummy's giving up. But she then realised I keep wanting to stand up. Now, as long as I grab onto something, I will stand up. Check out these photos. I just learnt to stand up on the sofa...

I Am 8 Months Old...

I am another month older today... 8 months now... There are so many milestones I am reaching every day. But unfortunately I have not successfully moved much yet by crawling. But I always want to stand up. Whenever I grab at something, be it Mummy's T shirt or her legs, I will try to get up. Mummy is amazed at the fact that I never get tired. 婆婆 says I will probably be like Mummy, who started walking at around 10 months plus...

Here's one taken with 婆婆, Daddy and Mummy....

Some milestones I reached at 8 months:

It Ain't Coming to An End Yet....

While Mummy was hopeful that June 30 will bring an end to the hectic work schedule she has been dealing with, it was to her dismay that it isn't happening and definitely it ain't coming to an end yet. It's amazing how much there is to do in an accounting firm. Transactions after transactions and deadlines after deadlines. Today, a third person in the last 2 weeks have told Mummy that she has lost weight again. Sigh...

It's definitely way into summer already and it's been so hot for 2 weeks already, with temperature ranging up to 38 degrees. Now, I need to be bathed 2 times a day and even despite that, I am still so sticky and hot every day, as I grow into a habit to keep moving. Whether it was sitting and rocking constantly, or even trying to stand by holding on to anything I can grab. I have been weaning off milk recently as I take more solids each day. Mummy has a hard time trying to feed me milk for my dream feed as I simply refused to drink, often having to separate the feed into 2-3 times at night. Mummy also bought me a new combi Stage 3 straw cup as she found that I hated the Avent sippy cup. Now drinking is an ease, even though I am still learning to drink the Combi cup.
